Thankful Tuesday
Evey woke up hungry and still tired.
Her hands and feet were purple and it concerned me because usually they go back to a pinkish color after she wakes up and starts eating. This morning they didn't and once the nurse came, I mentioned it to her and she said it was the same as yesterday. She was not in the happiest mood when I left to take Ty to childcare, but I was able to get her to calm down by watching a little Ms Rachel. The nurse was able to take her vitals.
I checked on her around 10:15 to see if she was doing ok and I got a long message back about her O2 dropping to 78% and then back up to 94%. It's a finger O2 device that you get from amazon and it picks up pretty well now that she is older. Her hands and feet were still purple and she was lethargic. She had just had a large explosive diarrhea before I checked in as well. The nurse thought it was from her being dehydrated but she had been giving her lots of liquids.
I contacted her cardiologist and they told me to get her assessed with her pediatrician or go to the er. I tried calling her pediatrician and they sent me straight the triage line. I left a message and thought they would call me back in an hour or so. The registered nurse from Thrive called me and suggested that I take her to the ER. When I got home, I fed her some lunch since she seemed hungry and she was able to eat the chicken and rice soup. The pediatrician still had not called back. Her breathing sounded like she was bearing down and short- not like her normal breathing. I changed her diaper and we went straight to the hospital. Thankfully they weren't too terribly crowded, and we were able to be seen within 10 minutes. They hooked her up to the monitor and watched her numbers and gave her zofran and took an xray of her lungs. Everything looked fine so around 415 they sent us home with a prescription of zofran. Apparently zofran is not covered by medicaid, so now I have homework to find out what medicines are covered by medicaid.
After getting her medicine, she fell asleep on the way home. I got her out and tried to give her supper but she just wanted to cuddle. Finally when she saw Laney eating, she wanted to try eating too. She was able to eat half of a nutrigrain bar and 5 tablespoons of applesauce. I gave her some of her milk and she drank a little bit of water. I had to give the rest through her gtube. Thank goodness for her gtube! I was able to give her a bath to get all the hospital germs off of her and she went straight to bed.
I am hoping tomorrow she perks up more and has a calmer day than today. I am thankful that she has perked up some and we did not have to send her to Duke and that we could be seen and discharged within a reasonable time. I am thankful for Ms Rachel helping calm her down when she didn't feel well. I am thankful that we got to be home tonight!
Tomorrow's to do list is to call her cardiologist to educate me on why her hands and feet stay purple with any kind of sickness and if this will be the norm for her as she grows.
Be like a bee- hardworking, wise and delicate!
