That was quick!

 As I was waiting for the doctor today I got a call.

Evey had a few rounds of diarrhea overnight and I called in the morning to get an appointment. A number with a  919 area code popped up on my phone so I answered.

"Hello?"

 "Hello, I am trying to reach Mandy Miller, Evey Miller's mother." 

"Yes, this is she." 

"Hi, I am the attorney general for Medicaid and the CAP-C program has reversed their decision. The next step is an assessment. I am going to go ahead and cancel the court date with the judge, if  you agree with their reversal decision." 

"Yes, I agree." 

We had just submitted the paperwork on Friday and they called me today! That was quick! Finally something going in the right direction and I didn't really need to put forth much effort! The fact that they reversed it so quickly makes me think that they are trying to smooth over the fact that it took them so long to get back with me on a decision when I applied in March 2024. Either way, I am excited to be able to get this service for Evey. It will help us a lot on the weekends and during the week when Joshua needs to work. 


The doctor suspects that this virus that Evey has is just taking longer than usual to move out of her body. We are hoping that she does not have any more rounds tonight and that by Thursday her digestive system will be back in order. 

She was happy to be able to snuggle with me this morning while the rest of the kids were at school. She did not want the nurse to comfort her, which is ok because there is nothing like a mommy's cuddle. When we got home from the doctor, she ate lunch and took a nap. I headed back to school to meet with my students and get prepped for tomorrow.  Joshua got home right as she was waking up and made dinner for everyone. 

She did not want to eat much dinner but did eat peanut butter crackers and a fig newton. She cuddled with Laney before bed and she went down for bed pretty early. Even when she is sick she is still the happiest baby. 

Now we wait for all the therapists to contact me to set up her sessions!

 Grumpy Happy Grumpy, Happy! That was the pattern for today. Evey slept in until 6:15 this morning and when I went into her room she greeted me with a solid, "heeeeey". I got her up and brought her into our room to get dressed but she soon got agitated when Mr. Ty smothered her with hugs and kisses. I brought her downstairs to eat her daily waffle and she did not want anything to do with it. She drank some of her milk but was not interested in that either. I ended up bolus ( BIG 2oz Syringe) feeding the rest  through her gtube and when she leaned forward it all came out of her mouth. I had to change her outfit. When she saw her nurse and changed her outfit she became a happy little girl who played while mommy worked on school stuff. She worked on getting in the crawling position with the nurse and pulling up on the nurse from sitting position. She even played at her activity table on her knees. We got hit!

  The stomach bug came swiftly through our house. Thankfully only Evey and I have gotten it, but it took me and Evey out yesterday and today. I made it to work, but I was super tired and had to move slow. In hindsight, I should have stayed home to sleep it off, but with Joshua working the middle school game, I had to make sure the kids had a ride home. Evey is still getting over it and was super tired today and did not want to eat or drink. I had to give everything  through the gtube. Hopefully tomorrow she will want to eat.  This weekend before all the sickness hit us, we had fun! We were able to go to a new antique shop and look around. Laney found some cute earrings and a cup. I found a cute chair for our dining room, the boys found a sticker for their water bottles and Joshua found a piece of history. The boys got a haircut and Evey was able to relax. We tried a new trick to help her start using her pincer grasp and she loved it! She has definitely learned how to hold...

Perspective

As teachers we are able to get a 7-8 week break between June and August. Some people wonder why we get the break while others understand why we get the break. For us, we are able to spend more time with our children together as a family without having to worry about lesson plans, parents, administration etc. We really get to focus on our relationship with each other and with each of our kids. It really is a blessing to be able to be at home with them during the summer break.  A lot of people ask how Joshua and I manage being around each other all the time especially since we teach at the same school. It's not easy but it's not hard either. We choose to make it easy or make it hard. Have there been arguments? Of course! Have there been times where we each feel like we need a break from the kids for "me" time? YES! Have we had to sit the kids down and talk to them about how to communicate better with each other?
