The Bee- A gift from God
The bee is referenced in the Bible 66 times. It is a small, delicate creature, but wise. It creates honey that is sweet to taste and has healing powers. A lot of scholars believe the bee symbolizes Jesus Christ- his forgiveness (the sweetness of the honey) and his dying on the cross for our sins( the stinger).
As young children, we were probably scared of bees. We would run and squeal and cry. It was only when our parents told us why we shouldn't be afraid and explained the role of bees that we understood its' purpose. Some of us may be allergic to bees, it's something out of our control and might wish we weren't allergic; however, we still understood the purpose when we got older.
A bee's purpose is to make honey and pollinate so that we, as humans, can enjoy their hard work with pretty flowers and 32 ounce jars of honey that we can eat and use medicinially. When they sting, they die. They don't necessarily want to die, but they will when they feel threatened. It's the same for Jesus, he worked hard to heal people, to love people, to show people how to live and then died on the cross because of our sins. He was threatened and beaten like the bee, but He didn't want us to feel threatened so that is why he died for us.
My family and I are expecting number 4, a girl, who has been diagnosed with down syndrome and heart defects while growing inside of me. This was an unexpected pregnancy for us; however, our oldest daughter really wanted us to have another baby because she wanted to have a little sister. She told us at dinner one night when her little brother was about to turn one that she wished we could have another one. We looked at her and said, "That ain't happening!" To our surprise in November, she got her wish and is SO excited about her. Our first son is super excited too because he wants to teach her everything that he is learning at school. Our second son is too young to understand, but asks if she is still in there (pointing to my belly) every day.
We chose a name for her and her symbol. My daughter's symbol is a ladybug, so she wanted her sister to have an insect symbol too. Our two boys both have sea creatures, a whale and a sea turtle since they were born in the summer time. All three kids decided that her name should be Evey and her symbol should be a bee.
Evey is already showing signs of having a delicate physique with her heart defects. She has already given us wisdom on how our lives will change once she is here. She is a gift from God. The God wink that we have been given is that we named and picked her symbol even before knowing her diagnosis. It's God's way of preparing us for the adventure that awaits.
Please be in prayer that the pregnancy continues until 39 weeks, there are no other complications and that the doctors will be able to get more clear pictures of her heart as she continues to grow.
