Cuddles

Evey started having some congestion last night.

When she woke up, I could tell she needed her nose cleared. I got out the trusty nosebot and sucked it right out of her. She can't stand it but its quick and it gets it ALL out. It's hospital grade, ad  it's been a life saver. I think the best money that I have spent on baby items is the nosebot and the upright seat. They have helped Evey tremendously!

She didn't have school today, so she stayed home with the nurse. As we were busy working, Evey kept getting worse and worse as the day went on. When we got home I could hear her crying. The nurse had a mask on and Laney was trying to console Evey while she was playing on the floor. When I saw the nurse I said, "Uh oh, everything OK?" She replied, "I just don't want to get sick." Fair enough.

Once I washed my hands, I got a hold of Evey and she quickly calmed down. I signed the nurse out and I got the nosebot and sucked some more snot out. She immediately perked up. The nurse had mentioned that she didn't want to eat or drink much today, so I thought for sure she would do the same at dinner. NOPE! She ate like a champ! She ate 4.5 chicken nuggets, 1 fig newton and a handful of oyster crackers.  She drank all her milk and water. She got a second wind and played until I gave her a bath.

I was able to get more snot out while she was taking a bath and she felt really relaxed. I turned on her cool mist humidifier and immunity blend diffuser and she went straight to sleep. As I am typing this she is beginning to get more congested so I will go upstairs and suck some more out so that she can sleep better.

The thing most people don't know about kids and adults with down syndrome is that they get sick easily and quickly and it takes longer for them to get over a sickness because their nasal passages are so narrow. Evey had RSV in the fall and it was pretty scary. She was congested and her breathing got worse as the days progressed. Thankfully we dodged the hospital and was able to treat it at the pediatrician office with at steroid and breathing treatments. I always worry about her heart when she gets sick as well.

She is absolutely going to need lots of cuddles for the next few days as her body fights off this cold. I made sure to remind Ty to wash his hands and not get near Evey so that it does not spread through the house.  Having him and Evey in two different childcare settings plus the 4 of us all being at the same school, we all bring the germs back to our house. It doesn't matter if we change clothes when we get home or have air purifiers, someone is always going to bring something home. We just have to do what we can to keep her comfortable and let her body fight it off. By the time she gets to kindergarten she will have a superior immune system!

I am keeping her home tomorrow so that she can get more rest and be able to get her immune system back where it needs to be!
